Objectives
1) To familiarize the students with specific key concepts of interpretation of the Portuguese medieval period.
2)To provide students with adequate knowledge about the powers of the king, the secular church, municipalities, their relations and conflicts.
3) To familiarize the students with some essential sources for the History of Powers during the periods studied.
Learning outcomes and competences
1)Acquisition by students of chronological frameworks essential for the periods considered
2) Control of concepts historiographical such as 'Identification of a Country "(1096-1279) and' Genesis of the Modern State" (1279-1521).
3) Control of the problems inherent to the plurality of political powers in the Middle Ages Portuguese.

1. Introduction: Na approach to the Middle Age through the History of the Powers.
2. «Definition of boundaries» (1096-1279...): creation and consolidation of a kingdom. 2.1. The (long) “dossier” of historiography of the creation of a kingdom. 2.2. Conjunctures: From «Condado de Portucale» to a kingdom.
3. Changings in the 14th cent. and the political conditions of the 15th cent.
4. The «genesis of the political modernity» . 4.1. The power of the king.4.2.The secular church. 4.3. The non-religious aristocracy 4.4. The power of the municipalities. 4.5. The "Parliament" 5. Conclusion: The end of the 15th cent.: old powers and new problems?

CHANGES IN ASSESSMENT AND SCHEDULE: According to the determinations of the Pedagogical Council, released on 20.04.2020, regarding the school calendar and asessment, due to the pandemic, all Students are informed of the following:
1)TYPE OF EVALUATION: assessment is maintained distributed with final examination - Evaluation Components - Exam (50%) + Work (50%)
2) SCHEDULE: according to original plans. In the academic week there will be no classes from this UC.
3) MEANS OF DELIVERY OF THE TEOR OF THESE CHANGES: - registration in the lesson summary from 23.04.2020 and dynamic email sent to all students on 23.04.2020.
