- Identify the evolution of the Portuguese municipal institutions, since the formation of the kingdom of Portugal to the XX century.
- Identify the chronology and the geographic location of the different contents.
- Interpret written documents, graphic and cartographic information related with the history of the municipalities.
- Know the main vectors of the problems associated with research on History of Municipalism.
- Being able to work with literature on the subjects addressed and identify the prospects most exploited in recent years.
- Apply knowledge obtained in concrete situations that involve an historical perspective on the Portuguese municipalism.
1. Origins: municipal communities and genesis of a kingdom.
2. Royal power / municipal power.
3. The evolution since the 'neighbors'democracies' to the elites constitued by some citizens.
4. The municipal context: reform and reforms (legislative body).
5. Local elites: statutes and social recruiting (noble people of governance).
6. Municipal government: organs, skills and performances.
7. The administrative reforms and municipalist ideology: from theLiberalism to the Republic.
