Objectives

We seek that the student will acquire knowledge about the main aspects of Daily Archaeology, particularly regarding the archaeology of the houses (noble and common houses; urban and rural houses), the archaeology of the religious spaces (churches, mosques and synagogues, and their relation with liturgy), and the archaeology of the death (evolution of the several burial forms).

Learning outcomes and competences

The student shall become capable of understanding the diversity of structures and materials and their diachronic evolution, as well as knowing the main bibliography.

Program

1. Archaeology of the Death. Mentalities. Liturgy. Collective attitudes towards death. Typological and chronological evolution of medieval graves.

2. Archaeology of religious spaces. From Palaeo-Christian cult spaces to late medieval temples. Parochial and monastic temples. Spatial options and liturgical adequacy. Synagogues and Mosques.

3. Archaeology of civil spaces. Palaces and fortified house (domus fortis). Evolution of manors: from the needs of superiority and defence to comfort requirements. Other housing spaces: urban and rural houses.
