Objectives

With the objective to allow students of the 6th semester a first experience in the world of work, it is intended to offer students the opportunity to work in a professional environment, mainly in the areas of services, culture management or industry.
During this time period the trainee should be introduced into various sectors of the company in order to, often for the first time, observe the operation of a company inside and participate, within the limits of their competence, in tasks that the supervisor determines. The students, in addition to their expertise in at least two foreign languages, may offer basic knowledge in such areas as economy, administrative law, business communication, marketing and public relations that, somehow, may be completed during the internship.

Learning outcomes and competences

After approval the trainee will be able to:
- perform professional activities in work context;
- perform tasks autonomously and with responsibly;
- recognize the specificity of the professional context and the plurality of professional standards;
- know how to work as a member of a team with other professionals from different areas,
- develop the necessary resources, personal and relational, to a successful adaptation to the training environment,
- apply the knowledge and skills acquired during the academic training in order to solve a variety of problems and difficulties during the internship.

Program

The internships take place in multiple settings previously established by protocols of collaboration. Given the broad range of professional contexts of host entities a multitude of fields, methods and assessment/intervention strategies are covered.
In addition to an onsite advisor whose function is to monitor closely the activities performed by the trainee, there are supervisors of the faculty who meet regularly with the interns, and ensure the link between theoretical learning and practical requirements. Supervisors are also responsible for ensuring the mediation between the faculty and the host institutions.
At the end of the first week of internship, and in the course of meetings conducted with the advisor, the trainee shall submit to the supervisor a plan of activities to be carried out.

Teaching methods and learning activities

Interns experience their first professional practice which gets progressively more autonomous in actions. Their practises are continuously monitored, either by the advisor, or the supervisor.
The evaluation is distributed throughout the semester. In addition to information obtained from the supervisors and trainees, one meeting is held with the advisors where they comment on the performance and learning development of the trainees. At the end of the semester the trainees deliver a internship report where it is expected that the student presents and discusses the activities undertaken, and reflects over the internship experience as whole.
