Objectives

At the end of the course the students are expected to acquire the following skills:  
1. Knowledge about the linguistic aspects of the Japanese language.
2. Practical capabilities in the areas of Japanese communication and listening.
3. Understanding about Japan and Japanese culture through learning and self-learning of Japanese language, especially in its communicative and writing functions of Japanese characters (Kanji).
4. Can describe actions, situations, causal relationship, and etc. with complex sentence. 

Learning outcomes and competences

The syllabus provides students the basic but necessary tools for communicating in Japanese. For this, it is required not only the knowledge of Japanese language but also the comprehension and awareness of Japanese culture and costumes. Thus, students will be able to articulate systematically Japanese syntax according to appropriate daily use of the Japanese i.e. grammatical expressions more appropriate to the situational context and temporal usage of Japanese language.

Teaching methods and learning activities

Teaching methodology is focused on interactive communication and grammar explanations. Occasionally, i.e. whenever necessary power point is used. In addition, figurative images are used to help students explain to developing cognitive and linguistic capabilities. In class, active participant of the students is highly encouraged as a way to boost their communication abilities both to daily and professional life. Self-study by learning is also expected in order to consolidate knowledge and cover possible language voids. There will be two tests and evaluation exercises without final exam. Therefore, the evaluation is on continuous assessment, particularly the study of Japanese bibliography as the main tools available.
