Objectives

The students must learn the fundamental concept of public reading and should be familiar and current with the portuguese public library network project and the portuguese political model for public libraries. Students should demonstrate an understanding of the organization and performance of public libraries and of the processes to evaluate their efficiency.

Realize the project of the public library network in Portugal.

Understand the objectives of a public library

Understand the operation of the public library and its relationship with citizens.

Understand the advantages of using technology in the purchase, organization, storage and information dissemination.

Realize the advantages of cooperation between the public library and other institutions.

The importance of the local history collection development and preservation. 3.3. Organization, retrieval and dissemination of public library information. 3.4. Class-time instruction will be a combination of lectures, presentations and group discussions. Oral and written assignments are designed to promote critical analysis and reflection on readings.
