Acquire knowledge and develop skills in the design and development of 2D multimedia content.
1) Develop structured knowledge on digital multimedia and new media, characterization and application areas.
2) Develop skills in the development of 2D multimedia contents and products by through the use of a programming language (javascript)
3) Develop skills in producing and manipulating information in distinct digital formats, considering the storage, transmission and the use of content.
4) Recognize a program or multimedia environment as an array of media elements linked. Understand and characterize these media elements.
5) Develop skills in creating digital interfaces applying structured concepts of visual Communication Design and multimedia projects.
6) Develop skills in the production of interactive content through the use of a set of authoring tools.
7) Develop skills in the use of instruments for recording and manipulating video: video capture and post-production in a multi-camera environment.
Students must have skills in bitmap and vector drawing (such as, for example, lectured in the courses of the 1st year: Tecnologia dos Media and Design and Visual Communication).
a) General contents
The production of media online 2D contents using authoring tools. Use of accessory tools for image, audio and video processing. Programming javascript.
b) Specific contents on multimedia technology
Introduction to Digital Multimedia: definitions, main characteristics, main application areas. Definition and characterization of digital media. Multimedia information: classification of different media, as to the nature, acquisition / synthesis. Introduction to computer programming, introduction to programming of multimedia contents with javascript.
c) Specific contents on multimedia design
Analysis of text and image in the context of multimedia design: applicability. Principles of construction of graphical interfaces: theoretical / practical concepts. Study of visual interactive systems, dynamic typography and digital imaging. Multimedia narratives. Organization of multimedia content in the context of navigation structures. Organization of information and its availability to the level of menus, sub-menus, among others.
d) Specific contents on video editing and post-production
Use of recording instruments and image manipulation: capture and post-production environment multi-camera.

Lecture of concepts, principles, statements and inferences about the subjects taught. Problem-based learning method for the consolidation of concepts and principles taught in lectures. The aim here is to develop practical skills, further development of subjects. This method is eminently instantiated in exercises / projects. Because of the practical nature of this course, the evaluation is carried out continuously, through works / projects of theoretical / practical nature, namelly:
· Design: exercises/small projects done during classes + final project.
· Technology: theoretical / practical exam at the middle of the semester + final project.
· Video: final project.

1. Mandatory attendance of 75% of classes, unless established otherwise by general law and in the FLUP Assessment Regulations.
2. Mandatory attendence to all the theorectical and practical works on the three components (technology, design and video).
3. A final score (see classification formula) of at least 9.5.
4. students fail this course if they get a score equal or below 6 in one of the components (design, video, technology) even if the average final score is equal or higher than 9.5.
Grades are given on a scale from 0 to 20.
Design: Continuous assessment (10%) + works (23%)
Technology: intermediate exam (15%) + final project (19%)
Video: participation (2%) + role definition (5%) + Activity report (14%) + final work (group) (12%)
The evaluation is continuous and distributed. There are no special works or exams.
Projects are created throughout the semester for Design and Video components of the course. A final project is required for Design, video and technology, which is done in class during weeks 10-13 aproximatelly.
As provided in the FLUP Assessment Regulations and in the “Comments” field of this subject factsheet. Where specific regulations applicable to special cases and to this subject allow students to be exempted from the theory/practical classes, the timetable for supervision and presentation of assignments required for the subject must be agreed with the lecturers.
1. Evaluation moments occur throughout the semestre (continuous evaluation).
2. Students wanting to improve their grades can to it in the next school year. Students wanting to improve their grades should contact the teacher during the first week of classes.
All practical assignments must be monitored regularly by the lecturers, otherwise they will not be considered in the calculation of the grade.
If students fail to provide an assessment element for one of the subject components (design, technology and video), they will not pass, even if the global average score of the assessment components available is more than 9.5.
Given the project nature of the subject, all assignments in the technology, design and video components are mandatory.
Enrolment in this course subject will not be allowed after the end of the third week of classes.
No work should be delivered after the end of June of the current scholl year.
