Objectives
To know the peculiar characteristics of water and its importance to life; Understand the operation of the hydrological cycle and its role in water and heat distribution in globe surface; Identify problems related to water resources at various scales of analysis; Analyze the problem of water management, particularly the economic, environmental, legal and social issues.
Learning outcomes and competences
Characterize the extreme hydrological situations and their implications for land management; Assess the consequences of climate change on water resources.

1) Characteristics and importance of water to life on Earth. 2) Water as a limiting factor for the development of ecosystems. 3) Hydrological Extremes: causes, consequences and possible mitigation. 4) Problems of water resources at different scales of analysis. 5) Water resources management 6) Impacts of climate change on water resources.
