To promote research and knowledge acquisition about the materials and their manufacturing techniques, in order not only to identify and contextualize artifacts and their functioning, but also to understand behaviours and evolutive technological steps. To improve the comprehension of matters from other subjects.
Students equiped with methodological working tools which may allow them to make research in this area.

Throughout the semester will be provided specific literature about the different topics of the program.
Theoretical and practical lessons and tutorial supervisions. Resource to active teaching/learning strategies, such as field trips and the practical application of knowledge in presentations/discussions/education based in case studies. Development or group or individual work.

Students must be registered and guarantee a 75% assiduity, both to classes and to tutorial supervision sessions. Their assiduity will be verified by the teacher through the students’ signature in attendance sheets, which they may consult for absence management. Students covered by special legislation are dismissed from this prerequisite.
The following evaluation components will be considered: - Constructive participation in classes (15%); - Reporting (25%); - Preparation and presentation of a lesson (30%); - Thematic research and preparation of written work (30%);
Students dismissed from the attendance prerequisite and who didn’t comply with it shall: - Develop, autonomously, activities which explore the program, after teacher's approval, and write a report about them; - Elaborate a thematic research work, which the teacher will supervise through the existent communication channels; - Prepare and present a lesson during the exam period, in a time and place to be set;
