Objectives

The expected outcomes of the professional internship are for successful students to:
• Learn about the complexities of the professional world of translation and languages service, understand how the market is changing and be prepared to adapt to future requirements
• Develop awareness of their social and professional role as language services providers
• Gain experience from their own internship and from sharing this experience with others and with those doing research during seminar discussions
• Acquire knowledge of how to interact with clients: marketing their services, negotiating the parameters and providing estimates for the work commissioned, and keeping to the standards and deadlines agreed
• Know how to work in teams of translators and other professionals, including in virtual environments
• Understand the ethics of professional translation and the challenges presented
• Be able to evaluate their own work and that of others
• Discover further aspects of the profession not covered in other disciplines


Program

Programme
• Introduce students to general principles and problems of internships
• Organize sessions with professional translation and language services experts
• Promote open discussions on topics related to different aspects of the language services professions with presentations of relevant bibliography
• Develop seminar discussions to solve specific problems related to professional ethics and procedures
• Provide a programme for the presentation and discussion of aspects of the different internships
