Objectives

The expected outcomes of the research project are for successful students to:
• Be able to prepare a research project
• Learn about the complexities of the professional world of translation and language services, understand how the market is changing and be prepared to adapt to future requirements
• Develop awareness of their social and professional role as language services providers
• Gain experience from their research and by sharing it with others and with the professional interns during seminar discussions
• Acquire knowledge of how to interact with clients: marketing their services, negotiating the parameters and providing estimates for the work commissioned, and keeping to the standards and deadlines agreed
• Understand the ethics of professional translation and the challenges presented
• Be able to evaluate their own work and that of others
• Discover further aspects of the profession not covered in other disciplines
