Objectives

The objectives are to:
•define and characterise tourism as a part of land management, and also contribute to increasing and consolidating knowledge of the geographical approaches to tourism, essentially to the relationship amongst cultural, social, economic, political or environment features.
•identify the meaning of tourism in the societies today especially concerning the changes occurring in local behaviours, with particular emphasis on the Portuguese situation, highlighting the meaning and the role of tourism in the process of development and its effect on territorial structure.

Successful students will be able to:
«IC1 – Use geographical terms and concepts correctly
IC3- Select the most appropriate level for analysis of a given situation.
IC4 – Use geographical concepts in combination with those of other areas of knowledge.
IC5-Analyze diversity and interdependence between the local and global
IC6 – Analyze diversity and interdependence between natural and social environments.
IC7 – Compare processes, mechanisms and territorial results of a changing situation.
IT3 – Interpret information correctly and carefully in comparing it with other already available and credible information , raising hypotheses and outlining suggestions for their validation.
IL1 – Express themselves in their mother tongue, both in oral and written form with correctness, accuracy and fluency, being transparent as a sender and alert/flexible as a receiver.

II4- Show Sensitivity to geographical issues, becoming involved in assignments..

Eligibility for exams

One mini-test and a practical assignment.

Calculation formula of final grade

Mini-test - 15%; practical work - 35%; oral skills and participation - 10%; exam - 40%.

Examinations or Special Assignments

The field work report - the study visit taking place between the 10th and 12th weeks of classes - may be wholly part of the “practical work”.
