Objectives

Successful students will be able to:
- research, process and interpret the main sources of information used in territorial analysis, namely statistical, documentary and bibliographic information;
- understand the different types of spaces in the Mediterranean region;
- be aware of some of the most pressing problems of the Mediterranean region, its diversity, degree of incidence and mutability;
- understand the Mediterranean region in its diversity and geographical dimensions;
- recognise and interpret spatial diversity, its characteristics, problems and development dynamics;
- recognise the value of different cultures and societies within the region;
- relate the changing capacity of territorial organisation to the different degrees of environmental, scientific, economic and social development;
- develop their critical reflection about the current Mediterranean framework;
- work together, share ideas, methods, strategies with the aim of developing skills to define intervention strategies at different scales.

Teaching methods and learning activities

Theoretical and practical classes.
- Theoretical contents will be presented using audiovisual aids.
- Practical classes in which students can apply the knowledge acquired and in work groups.
- The assignments aim to explore different subjects and the most pressing problems of the Mediterranean region. Students will be tutored by the teacher.
-The student will acquire methodological, technical, scientific and relational skills in order to develop a project and solve various problems of the Mediterranean region.

Students must have 9.5 to pass the subject. Attendance is compulsory and it is one of the assessment criteria.

Calculation formula of final grade

- Theoretical component: 60%
- Practical component: 30%
- Oral presentation, debate, participation: 10%

ERASMUS students can do an assignment on one of the themes instead of the exam. Students will be tutored by the teacher.
Student workers have to do a practical assignment that will be also assessed.
