Objectives
- Acquire the theoretical and methodological principles oriented to the information storage, representation, retrieval and use, independently of the information nature, the information lifecycle stadium, the production method or the medium of storage.
- Acquire the theoretical and methodological principles oriented to the planning, organization and evaluation of storage and retrieval information systems.
- Acquire the theoretical and methodological principles oriented to the study, analysis and evaluation of the processes of information storage and retrieval.
- Acquire the knowledge and competences related with the main information storage methods, formats and platforms.
- Acquire the competences and abilities to perform the techniques of organization and evaluation of information storage and retrieval systems.
- Understand and apply the techniques, standards and other tools related with representation, retrieval, access and use of information.
- Apply and correctly use the technologies, considering them as a non dissociated component of the information retrieval and evaluation of information resources processes.

1. Historical analysis of information storage and retrieval processes: manual, semiautomatic and automated systems
1.1. Research tools in book form (indexes, inventories, catalogues, etc.)
1.2. Research tools in manual records
1.3. Punched card systems, of the peek-a-boo type (semiautomatic)
1.4. Databases and the OPAC
2. Automated information storage and retrieval systems, especially conceived for managing information
2.1. On library systems (combinatory information systems)
2.1.1. The Unimarc format: normalization and format structure
2.1.2. Analysis and filling in data sheets
2.1.3. Entering data and conducting searches
2.2. On integrated management systems for archive information (organized information systems)
2.2.1. Authority control and information classification and description
2.2.2. Analysis and filling in data sheets
2.2.3. Entering data and conducting searches
2.2.4. Document Management/Content Management software analysis
3. Evaluation of information retrieval results
