Objectives

- To acquire an understanding of the dimension of the problems arising in the management of natural hazards.
- To develop independent skills in natural hazards analysis and in the implementation of management strategies.

THEORETICAL CLASSES
1. Basic concepts: Hazard, Vulnerability, Resilience
2. Natural hazards in Portugal
3. Natural hazards in the Portuguese legislation
4. Natural hazards and physical planning
5. Perception of hazards
6. From the management of hazards to the management of crisis.

PRACTICAL CLASSES
Natural hazards in territorial planning: students will accomplish specific assignments

Teaching methods and learning activities

Classes are based on a combination between explanatory lectures on the topics of study, guided reflection in class and individual reflection by the students.

Presentation of topics.

Reflection in class based on the topics introduced by the lecturer.

Document and statistical research carried out in class.

Oral presentation of a topic, for which students engage in reflection and research throughout the semester.
