Abstract (EN): The spread of built-up areas and particularly the way such growth has developed in the last few decades has been a major focus of attention and concern for numerous agents who are directly or indirectly responsible for land-use management, from politicians to urban planners, including researchers and, generally speaking, society as a whole. To understand the complexity of current urbanization, it is necessary to not only analyze the spatial forms, but also to seek to grasp the social and economic construction of the urban environment. At a time in which issues related with sustainability and environmental protection gain more relevance and are more often introduced in political, economic and social debate, awareness is also raised on the urban growth model and the fast pace of soil sealing, often carried out at the cost of environmental and landscape values, to mention only some of the most apparent.
