Resumo (PT):
Abstract (EN): Chapter 23: This chapter offers a comparative study of hagiographic devotion in the lordships of three Military Orders inspired by the Cistercian model in late Medieval times: Avis and Christ in Portugal and Calatrava in Castile. It is part of a wider project entitled Military Orders and the construction of western society: culture, religiosity, gender and social development in border areas, 12th – 15th centuries (HAR2013–45350), sponsored by the Spanish government. The relationship between hagiography and the Military Orders represents an encouraging field of inquiry intersecting religious and social history.
