Resumo (PT): A restruturação do sector eléctrico iniciou-se no Chile no final da década de 70, continuou em Inglaterra e Gales no início dos anos 90 e extendeu-se a outros países europeus, da América do Norte e do Sul e à Austrália na década de 90. Este livro apresenta uma descrição dos mecanismos de contratação de energia eléctrica em ambiente de mercado, descreve os métodos de alocação de custos de transmissão, aborda a situação regulamentar e tarifária em diversos países e descreve a situação regulamentar em Portugal Continental existente no final de 2001.

Abstract (EN): The implementation of maket mechanisms in the electricity sector started in Chile at the end of the 70's, continued in England and Wales in the begining of the 90's and spread in Europe, North and South America and Australia along the 90's. This book presents a description of the mechanisms typically used to relate the generation and the demand in market environment, describes the methods used to allocate the transmission costs among the users of networks, describes the regulatory situation and tariffs in several countries, as well as the regulatory strategies and tariffs in Portugal mainland referred to the end of 2001.
