Summary: In general, the national industrial companies have low competitive indexes, which are due, in part, to the lack of innovation. Some factors that may lead to an increase in competitiveness are the accumulated know-how and the capacity to increase production with a lower manufacturing cost, as well as the flexibility to rapidly adapt to new products and processes. This project aims at answering these challenges by developing an intelligent robot capable of acquiring, in a fast and intuitive way, the know-how accumulated by specialized technicians and optimized during several years of experience.
The innovative characteristics are:
* Programming of robots/machines through demonstration;
* Modular and flexible system for automatic recognition of object geometry;
* Intelligent system capable of auto-adapting to new objects based on geometry and possessing an interpretation module capable of translating the programming language independent commands to the commands supported by the concrete robot installed for production;
* Advanced interface for management and control, supporting both local and remote interaction;
* Architecture and interaction between the modules and components of the system.

This project will bring immediate and obvious benefits to the promoters as well as to the national industry, namely an increase in competitiveness, production capacity and sales, penetration in new sectors, capacity to offer new solutions, etc.
This project is supported by the technological advances in several areas: electronic, sensors technologies information processing and storage, artificial intelligence, communication technologies and systems as well as new industrial robots. In order to answer these challenges, a multidisciplinary team with recognized expertise was created to carry out the project.
Observations: Foi celebrado um contrato de comercialização do "SMARTPAINT" em janeiro de 2012
