The major goal of this project is the development of a prototype of an integrated system for routine and emergency monitoring of sewage outfall plumes. The prototype will be based on an already existing autonomous underwater vehicle that will be equipped with the most adequate sensors for the detection of sewage plumes and also by an integrated system for planning, control and support of vehicle missions. The prototype will also include a data processing system that will allow for a rapid characterization of the way the sewage disperses in the area. The proposed system combines the most recent innovations in underwater robotics, ocean sensors technology and data modeling and processing, to provide an advanced instrument for environment monitoring and protection. |
