Summary: |
This project aims the development of an innovating technology for the production of cast iron sleeves to be used in the ceramic industry mills.
The innovation character of this project is given by pouring the metal into metallic permanent moulds, which is new for this kind of castings that can reach as much as 3,5 tons.
For this purpose, a co-operation between CMW and University of Porto (Metallurgical Engineering Dept.) was established.
The common way to produce these castings is the sand moulding process, which has several disadvantages in terms of economics, production and environment, making it difficult to achieve the requires properties for the moulds.
CMW pretends to innovate by cast these iron sleeves in metallic moulds. This process allows for longer life and superior surface finishing of castings, shorter production cycles and consequently better production and delivery capacities, decreasing the annual consumption of natural resource which is foundry silica sand. |
