Summary: As consequence of the last years interesting colaboration between Petrogal, particularly the Petrogal Porto Refinery and FEUP in areas of Process System Engineering, This project in the field of Modeling, Simulation and Optimization of Chemical Process have the following objectives:
- The acquiring of knowledge in modeling and simulation of refining processes technologies, especially, distillation reaction units;
- The integration of under and pos graduate education activities with scientific research and technologic development;
- The realization of research to obtain new Knowledge in immerging technologies;
- The transfer technology between I&D institutions and the prodution units and vice-versa.
In general, the project allows the modeling, simulation and optimization of the refinery process units, with the goal of increasing the knowledge and the efficiency of the installed equipment.
The choice of the Fuels Plant (Fábrica de Combustíveis) as a case study is supported in the sensibility to obtain results of high economic impact due to the high energy costs. Additionally it is necessary to improve prodution schemes attending to the constraints imposed by environmental directives.
The objective of the partners is to develop simulation tools to evaluate operation costs and to analyse operation conditions to reach high prodution add value, which is a goal for being internationlly competitive.
