Personal Presentation
Vasco Martins is Visiting Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Porto (FLUP) and researcher at the Centre for Social Studies of the University of Coimbra.
His research in the field of African studies has focused on issues of citizenship and the politicisation of historical memory in post-colonial and post-war contexts. He is the author of several articles published in high-impact international journals in the area and author of the book Colonialism Ethnicity and War in Angola (Routledge, 2021). He has participated and organized several national and international events, including lectures and conferences, and collaborated with various media outlets. He is one of the editors of the journal Cadernos de Estudos Africanos, and a member of the most relevant associations in the areas of Political Science, International Relations and African Studies, both in Europe and Africa.
He has a degree in International Relations from the University of Minho, a MSc in Nationalism and Ethnic Conflict from Birkbeck College, University of London and a PhD in African Studies from ISCTE-Instituto Universitário de Lisboa, where he developed a dissertation which was awarded an Honourable Mention by the Contemporary History Prize awarded by the Mário Soares Foundation.
