Apresentação Pessoal

Researcher at REQUIMTE, the largest Portuguese Chemistry network, Affiliate Professor of the Department of Heritage Studies from the University of Porto and member of the Portuguese Chemical Society.

He is editor of one book and co-author of 25 papers in peer-reviewed scientific journals (2 on national journals), 11 book chapters, 11 conference proceedings papers, 29 oral presentations (including 12 invited lectures), 61 posters and 5 magazine articles. He supervised 6 MSc thesis, 5 Erasmus students and about 30 BSc, Master students and Research Fellowships.

His research interests are focused on Analytical Chemistry applied to Archaeology, particularly in what concerns the use of Chromatography on Organic Residues from archaeologic artefacts.  He is actively engaged in sharing basic chromatography principles with young archaeologists through advanced archaeology courses (Porto, Minho, Madrid and Santiago de Compostela Universities), showing its potentialities and limitations, in order to reach the BEST ARCHAEOLOGICAL PRACTICES.

He was chair of the Organizing Committee of the International Conference ARCHAEOANALYTICS: CHROMATOGRAPHY AND DNA ANALYSIS IN ARCHAEOLOGY (Esposende, Portugal, 2014) that welcomed archaeologists and national and international experts on organic residue analysis and on the study of ancient DNA fragments.
