This course intends to allow foreigners to reach a general grasp of Portuguese Literature and Culture. In addition to lectures on relevant moments, the course will study in greater depth excerpts from literary works which focus on the notion of a Portuguese identity:
The Lusiads, Luis Vaz de Camões
The Maias, Eça de Queirós
Message, Fernando Pessoa
Tales from the Mountain, Miguel Torga
The return of the caravels, António Lobo-Antunes

Thus, in connection to the international efforts put forward by the University of Porto, this course is particularly relevant for Erasmus students, allowing them an informed and critical access to Portuguese literary and cultural tradition.
