The adequacy of the graduate degree in History of Art (ministered at FLUP since 1999) to the Bologna Program has been approved by Deliberation no. 707/2007 of the Permanent Section of the University of Porto’s Senate and registered by the Directorate General for Higher Education – cf. Rules for the cycle of Studies conducive to the Graduation in History of Art (Diário da República, 2nd series, no. 77 – April 19th 2007, pp. 10207-10210).
Education competences
The 1st cycle in History of Art provides the student:
A general vision of the artistic forms’ evolution in the historical and cultural context where they were produced;
The capacity to develop research about a theme, both individually or integrated in multidisciplinary teams;
A critical and constructive conscience about the social and cultural role of History of Art;
An understanding about the importance of the artistic heritage as a vector of cultural identity.
Employment Prospects
The theoretical and practical education given throughout the degree aims to form technicians in order to integrate specialized teams in different areas: in heritage-oriented institutions from Central and Regional Administration and Local Government, as well as Museums, Cultural Centres and public or private Collections.
The graduate students will also be qualified to integrate Local Associations, Regional Development Associations, Portuguese Tourism Institute and Tourism, Architecture and Patrimonial Management Offices.
