Image with quote from Gelsa Bugs, Researcher at Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul:

The Agency for Assessment and Accreditation of Higher Education (A3ES), accredited this second-cycle degree programme unconditionally
(see the documents here).

The use of Geographical Information Systems has been registering, over the last decade, a significant increase in spatial planning, which is materialized by the adoption of this technology in areas as diverse as: environment, transportation, water supplying and waste treatment, agriculture, civil protection, among many others.

One can say that the GIS are a transverse tool, whose employment has generalized to all activity sectors, where location, associated to mobility, are important factors of work rationalization and productivity gains. This course will develop specific competences to answer these new challenges.

Credited with 120 ECTS, the Masters is four semesters long.

Important:
  • the approval in 1st and 2nd semester subjects provides a specialization diploma in Geographical Information Systems.
  • The 3rd semester includes, in addition to two curricular units, a 108-hour internship.
  • The 4th semester is entirely dedicated to the dissertation.

Objectives

The aims of this course are grouped in four great parameters:

  • Disciplinary scientific education: to promote the deepening of knowledge in the cartography, geographical information systems; and in the scope of planning and spatial planning, to apply explicative models and diagnosis methodologies and to propose territorial intervention areas;
  • Multidisciplinary scientific education: to promote interdisciplinarity and transversality of knowledge;
  • Adaptation capacities: to train post-graduates to face and to solve new problems creatively, showing adaptation capacities to the fast changes in the current world;
