Course Description

OBJECTIVES:

  • Promote the study of the French language, and the literature, culture and history of France and of the French-speaking countries;
  • Provide the students with methodological research and analysis instruments, thus developing their capacity for learning, critical choice and reflection of the knowledge acquired;
  • Encourage a desire for scientific research, by promoting connections between students and the Portuguese Department’s Research Units and the preparation and publication of papers in the different available journals;
  • With these objectives, the course aims at providing some balance between more wide-ranging, general instruction and specialized training that may prepare the students to teach French in primary education (7th to 9th grades) and secondary education, or to perform other activities.

    COURSE STRUCTURE:

  • The degree course has a duration of four academic years, divided into eight semesters;
  • Each semester has six subject modules;
  • The subject of French Language is annual, as is assessment. The same applies to all the other living languages lectured at the Faculty. For all ends implying the sum of subject credits units, an annual subject counts as two semester subjects;
  • In each academic year, students may register for a maximum of 14 subject modules (7 modules per semester, except for the first registration in the first year, where they can only register for 10 modules (5+5);
  • The student passes to the 2nd year upon conclusion of 7 semester modules; to the 3rd year, with pass grades in 17 modules, and to the 4th year, with 27 modules.
