Description: The present training is organized in the framework of the Recovery and Resilience Plan (RRP) of Portugal, with the objective of upskilling or reskilling students from all fields.

Portugal and the space sector: agents, regulations and economic potential

PSE1 - ECTS 1. Identify the main actors in the current context of privatisation of the space economy.
2. Understand the role of international organisations and States alike concerning space governance and regulation of space activities.
3. Analyse the European Union’s role in the space sector concerning the internal market, industry and scientific research.
4. Recognise the opportunities for Portugal as an EU member State generated by the advances in space exploration and the context of the Digital Transition.
5. Describe the priorities outlined in the Portuguese National Space Strategy and think critically about them.
6. Distinguish between the different international legal instruments applicable to space activities.
7. Identify some of the space activities that raise the most significant legal difficulties and be able to summarise the reasons thereof.
8. Identify and apply the Portuguese legal regime governing space activities and understand the linkages with international legal instruments.
9. Connect the evolution of the space sector’s global value chain with the current dynamic of the private sector globally.
10. Compare the size, potential and opportunities of the Portuguese space sector set against Europe, North America and Asia.
11. Conclude critically about how the national space sector stakeholders articulate among themselves and also about the labour mobility opportunities foreseeable for the short and medium terms.
12. Assess how their own professional and academic paths may best be leveraged for opportunities in the labour market connected with the space sector.
