MOVE International Mobility Program (Cooperation Agreements)

General Information

The University of Porto has cooperation agreements with several higher education institutions, which include the exchange of students.

Where to?

  • The majority of the agreements are with institutions in Brazil and South America: the list will be published when FLUP opens applications for student exchanges.
  • In other countries: please contact the International Office for information on existing mobility opportunities (agreements with countries in North America, Africa, Asia, and Oceania).

Who can apply?

  • Students registered at U.Porto and enrolled in a study programme leading to a recognized degree (Bachelor, Master or Doctorate);
  • 1st year students can apply as long as, at the end of the pre-application phase, it is verified that they have obtained at least 24 ECTS credits;
  • In the case of mobility for studies, the student must be attending at least the second year of studies in one of the 1st cycle courses (with a minimum of 48 ECTS) or integrated master's degrees at the U.Porto, at the start of the mobility;
  • Payment of tuition fees are duly up to date at U.Porto;

When can I apply?

FLUP opens two calls for applications: the first usually takes place between December and February, and the second between September and October, every year.

How can I apply?

Students interested in undertaking a mobility period at an international higher education institution should contact the International Office during the official calls, which will be published in the Faculty’s News board on the Sigarra and by institutional email.

Is my study area available?

The exchange agreements in force are mostly general, that is, open in principle to mobility in all areas of study offered at both institutions. For this reason, students who are interested in applying should do some research on the academic offer of the university(ies) to which they would like to apply, in order to check if they are compatible with their degree at FLUP, before submitting the pre-application.

How many places are available?

The number of selected students will be limited to 2 places per partner university. The selected students will subsequently formalize their application for mobility, but the decision to accept the proposed students will still be the responsibility of the host university.

For how long?

In the southern hemisphere, in particular, the academic year generally runs from February to December, i.e., the 1st semester will run from February to June and the 2nd semester from August to December. For this reason, students can only apply for 1 semester, as a longer period implies going through two academic years in the destination country.

Can I apply for a scholarship?

  • There are no generalised funding programmes for these cooperation agreements, except if those countries have their own funding scheme for incoming students. This information will usually be available in the international section of the potential host universities.
  • The selected students will benefit from tuition waivers at the host universities, but must continue to pay tuition fees at FLUP.
  • Students will also be responsible for travel, accommodation and visa expenses.
