Undergraduate courses/Bachelors - National Competition for Access to Higher Education

Students who completed their upper secondary education studies and were approved in entrance examinations required for FLUP’s 1st cycle courses of study may apply within the National Competition organised by the Directorate General for Higher Education (DGES).

Any doubt or need for clarification regarding the application process shall be submitted to the Office for Access to Higher Education of the University of Porto (GAES-UP) by e-mail at acesso.es@reit.up.pt or by phone (+351 220 408 237).


Entry requirements


General requirements
Students shall meet all of the following:

  1. Successful completion of upper secondary education or legal equivalent, until and including 2024/2025;
  2. Successful completion of all entrance examinations required for the intended course, in the academic year 2023 and/or 2024 and/or 2025;
  3. Meet any other conditions if required

Special Admissions

Applications via the special admission process  anly students meeting all of the following are eligible:
  1. Successful completion of upper secondary education or legal equivalent;
  2. Successful completion of all entrance examinations required for the intended course of study, in the academic year 2023 and/or 2024 and/or 2025;
  3. Fulfilment of any other prerequisites if required by the intended course of study;
  4. Presentation of valid proof of their situation as: Elite athletes – students with an elite athlete status registered as such in the Portuguese Institute of Sports; Portuguese citizens with scholarships to study abroad; public officers on official business abroad and the family members residing with them; students from Portuguese-speaking countries in Africa who benefit from scholarships under the scope of cooperative agreements established with the Portuguese Government; Foreign officers on diplomatic mission in Portugal and the family members living with them, on a reciprocal basis; Portuguese officers in a Portuguese diplomatic mission abroad and the family members residing with them; citizens born in Timor-Leste and their children; Portuguese military officers under specific demands from the Armed Forces; students with special education needs and disabilities. 

Swap
Students admitted in Undergraduate courses via the National Competition for Access to Higher Education are eligible to swap courses. To request a course swap, students shall comply with Article 54, Decree no. 197-B/2015, of 3 July.
They shall present:
  1. In the academic management service, a duplicate request either signed by both students and validated by a notary, or accompanied by the students’ respective ID Cards.
  2. Both applicants shall present the ENES statement (a document of the Directorate General for Higher Education).
  3. From the date of enrolment of the last student, both students have 15 days to submit a request (swap model).

Admission scores:
Admission score – 100 points
Entrance examinations – 95 points

Calculation formula:
Upper secondary education grade point average (GPA) – 60%
Entrance examinations – 40%

Validity of examinations:
For the purpose of admission to higher education, entrance examinations are valid in the year of their completion and in the two subsequent years.

These documents must prove compliance with the prerequisites of Groups B and D. The applicant shall present them at the moment of registration or enrolment.

Not presenting these documents will invalidate the possibility of enrolment or registration in higher education.
