Description: | Although formally created in 1985, the Institute for Comparative Literature only started a regular research activity in 1997, thanks to Margarida Losa’s commitment (1945-1999).
The work carried out by the Institute for Comparative Literature (ILCML) has been guided by the search of scientific excellence associated with social relevance, by exploring the creative potential to stimulate innovation and giving it an added value, which includes fundamental dimensions of human life for the formation and support of a critical mass for an inclusive and culturally advanced society. Grounded in a field of research and teaching of an interdisciplinary nature such as Comparative Literature, especially in its most current interdiscursive and interartistic developments, the ILC’s work covers and links different domains, which allows it to meet three essential pillars for university research and teaching: quality, relevance and innovation.
There are currently three main areas of research, organized into three research groups:
- Inter/Transculturalities
- InterSexualities
- InterMedialities
