Objectives

Introduce students to the study of and research on the major anthropological and historical issues of East Timor within the context of Southeast Asia.

Program

1. Territory, Houses and Lineage: historical anthropology of the peoples of Timor
2. Timor, a country between the emerging Hindu-Buddhist States and Islamic expansion in the Malay-Indonesian archipelago (8th to 15th century).
3. Portuguese trade presence, colonization and colonialism in Timor (16th to 19th century).
4. From the creation of the «Province of Timor» to the decolonization and independence of East Timor (20th century).
