Objectives

This course unit intends to outline a political, economic, social and cultural panorama of Germany in the contemporary era.

By the end of the semester the students who passed the evaluation components will know not only which events and personalities were most relevant in the culture of Federal Republic of Germany in the XX century, but also their political, economic and social context. Such wide and multisided knowledge will enable the students to a critical perspective and a contextualizing approach to the human facts.

Learning outcomes and competences

 

 Through a systematic study of the cultural phenomena and of the political, economic and social contexts that characterize the history of Germany in the period between 1919 and 1990, the students will not only get a detailed, rigorous and multifaceted knowledge of the contemporary German culture, but also develop the ability and the will to a contextualizing and multidisciplinary observation of human society.
