The objective of this module is to help students reflect on the cultural and religious aspects of social phenomena, events, situations and attitudes which do not seem to have any evident relation with culture and religion stricto sensu. Simultaneously, the study and methodology of the sources of cultural and religious structures will provide students with a better understanding of society, culture and the mentalities of a specific historical period.
The student should be able to recognize the research path when confronted with issues of cultural-religious domain linked to history and heritage.
Presentation of the seminar and its programme. Methodology and Sources. Assessment. Culture and Religion Human beings – religious animals? The Sacred and the Profane. Seclusion and personal fulfilment – Human beings as social animals. Religion and Society. Elements of religion in society. From theory to practice. Sacred power and cultural conflicts – continuities and fractures. A God with different faces. Control and repression of heterodoxy. Culture and Society. Culture and Mentalities – evolution.
Theoretical classes, backed bu laboratorial tasks (bibliography and documents) involving student participation by developing topics covered by the curriculum and as part of the research work of the student.
Use of various sources to be experienced by students, in addition to critical review and proper bibliography.
