i) To improve students’ knowledge of methodological procedures applied to research in contemporary history. ii) To develop a research project and describe all the methodological steps essential to its development.
Acquisition methods and techniques of research in history and skills of writing a dissertation.
1. Research procedures in contemporary history. 2. Major research methodologies and techniques. 3. Research sources (libraries, archives, web). 4. Data collection and treatment. Building a database. 5. Presenting a report. 6. Methodology applied to different issues in contemporary history. 7. Oral History : practical and theoretical issues. 8. Local History , Microhistory and Biography. 9. History and the Press. 10. Standards of referencing documents and literature.
Specific bibliography will be provided according the research issues.
Lectures and practical classes. Presentations (by the lecturer or invited speakers) of concepts, theoretical and methodological issues, as well as other topics related to the module programme. Use of texts, statistics, visual aids etc. during the presentations with a view to promoting students’ contribution to and participation in the class critical debate.
