1. Deepen, develop and acquire methodological skills to investigate and reflect on issues of Medieval History.
2. Produce an individual research project on a topic of Medieval History, to develop and complete in the corresponding course of the 2nd. Semester.
Since this course is the second module of the Seminar, aims to develop and enhance the methodological framework and questioning acquired in the previous module, in order to develop and complete individual research project through the preparation of a final report.
“The Ages of the Middle”: topics, methods, and issues (continuation of the program of the Seminar in Medieval History I)
1.Introduction: basic concepts in Medieval History.
2. Research and Work Methodologies
2.1. Time and space: chronologies and maps of the medieval period;
2.2.The main printed and manuscript sources (Portuguese and foreign archives and the most important document and published sources collections);
2.3 Main research tools;
2.4 How to write a research paper: a. Selecting the topic b. Organising the paper c. Collecting and processing information d. Collecting bibliography and reading e. Writing and presenting the paper.
3. Processing sources: selecting and analysing document and narrative sources.
4. Systematization and data processing.
5. Construction of databases
6. Support the preparation of individual reports.
Lectures and practical classes. Guidance will be provided in the following areas: researching information sources, creating databases, analysing and processing information, and writing research reports.

Final classification according to the following parameters: Public presentation of the final report - 20% Final Report Seminar - 80%.
