Objectives

The students should know the characteristics and structure of older monographic publications (before 1800) as well as acquire the necessary skills to undertake their cataloging and bibliographic description using national and international standards. It is also intended that students analyze the impact of new technologies in organization and access to older monographic publications.

Learn how to use reference books necessary for bibliographic description of older monographic publications.

Teaching methods and learning activities

Lessons will be both practical and theoretical, with emphasis on student involvement, and will consist of lecture, discussion and some in-class exercises of bibliographic description of older monographic publications. In order to contact some specimens, it shall be made a few visits to institutions with older monographic publications.
