Objectives
Preparation of a research project in the area of professional translation and language services
• Aquisition of research processes, methodologieis and practices
• Development of scientific and critical awareness
Learning outcomes and competences
The expected outcomes of the research project are for successful students to:
- Be able to prepare a research project
- Learn about the complexities of the professional world of translation and language services, understand how the market is changing and be prepared to adapt to future requirements
- Develop awareness of their social and professional role as language services providers
- Gain experience from their research and by sharing it with others and with the professional interns during seminar discussions
- Acquire knowledge of how to interact with clients: marketing their services, negotiating the parameters and providing estimates for the work commissioned, and keeping to the standards and deadlines agreed
- Understand the ethics of professional translation and the challenges presented
- Be able to evaluate their own work and that of others
- Discover further aspects of the profession not covered in other disciplines

Comments from the literature
There is considerable bibliography both in the library and online of the various subjects related to translation and language services - translation, interpreting, multimodal communications, intercultural communication, technical communication, revising, editins and general writing.
