Objectives

To introduce students to the core or nucleus of Degree in Information Science through a proper understanding of the nature of science in the wider context of the Humanities and Social Sciences, and their epistemological evolution that is happening in the network environment was Information. Provide students with the theoretical assumption of the matrix of the course and at the same time, make them aware that the CI is an applied social science, ie, has a vocation nitida and applicational practice, enriching themselves through a permanent dynamic interdisciplinary.

Learning outcomes and competences

Skills: Acquire operational concepts essential CI, dominate the understanding of the nature of scientific knowledge generated by CI. Distinguish the evolutionary perspective and integrated, which is taught and developed at the University of Oporto, CI cumulative or fragmented that is taught in many countries of the world. Learning Method quadrupole, a method proposed in 1974 for General and Applied Social Sciences and articulates it with the more practical requirements modeling and know how to use it in research contexts. Integrate knowledge of other disciplines in the core and complementary theoretical-methodological inherent to an information scientist.

Results: It is expected that there is a maturity in the reflection process, acquisition of abstract knowledge and the ability to relate different types of information, both theoretical and practical, so that once the labor market know investigatriva harmonize capacity and critical stance (scientific) with the instrumental need to solve problems.
