Objectives
The seminar aims to foster students' reflection on issues relating to theory and literary criticism, focusing on the most influential currents in the second half of the twentieth century.
Students should acquire skills that will allow them to perform analytical and critical reading of the texts discussed. This is expected to result in the development of their capacity for reflection as well as in the acquisition of knowledge that will enable them to understand and discuss the theoretical and critical contemporary thinking.
Program
The course will begin with a brief presentation of some significant moments in the history of Western literary theory, followed by the study of texts documenting the perspectives and debates that characterize literary studies since the mid-twentieth century, with special attention to the contemporary critical setting.
The texts to be studied can be found, with a few exceptions, in the following anthologies:
