After finishing a first degree in Archaeology at the University of Coimbra (Portugal) I pursued my studies at the University of Leicester (M.A. 1991 and PhD 2003) where I presented a thesis on museum professional discourses (The Professional Museumscape: Portuguese Poetics and Politics), supervised by Professor Susan Pearce. Published and organized conferences on topics relating to my research interests such as museological narratives and discourses professional museological identity and contemporary missions for museums Cocreator and editor of the Academic Journal MIDAS - Museums Interdisciplinary Studies and a member of the editorial Board of the Berghahn published Journal Museum Worlds. Invited to address audiences at international Conferences as a keynote speaker. I have coord. an action research project that dealt with the nature of museums and with the transformation of how institutions work together looking particularly at the use of journal writing to enhance reflective practice through the lens of learning. This project has asked participants to write journals as a form of reflective and creative practice and for creative imagination. I am particularly interested in the use of performative objects in museums. At present I am coordinating a museum and monuments visitors study and takes part in a research team studying material culture, namely the objects belonging to the universe of Portuguese Design (CIDES.PT funded by FCT). This research intends to deepen the processes of study of such collections and study the museological discourses and narratives they produce debating alternative research and exhibition proposals and models.
I am also a researcher at CITCEM and supervise Pos-Doctoral studies, Ph.D. and M.A. thesis and Dissertations within these interests (M.A. Dissertation concluded: 30 / PhD Thesis concluded: 5)
