Accordingly, the MHRIC organises and/or is associated every year to several academic conferences and seminars, attracting and inviting experts worldwide. In addition to all those organised by members of the teaching team, MHRIC supports an annual conference of Young Researchers in International Relations, actively involving MHRIC's students.

Objectives

• To provide within the University of Porto a post-graduate course with a multidisciplinary approach in the various scientific domains associated to the area of International Relations, Cooperation and Political Studies;
• To offer a flexible curricular structure within which very different research projects can be developed, articulating solid theory, methodology and practice;
• To provide a space for multidisciplinary debate in an academic environment;
• To stimulate solid scientific research in different and integrated areas of knowledge;
• To prepare agents who might develop professional activities and expertise in several diversified areas and instances in International Relations and Political Studies.

Fields of Specialization

Throughout four academic semesters and amounting to 120 ECTS, MHRIC's program comprises two compulsory seminars (on Methodology of Scientific Research and International Politics) and two entirely optional specialisation areas (one on International Relations and Cooperation, the other on Political Studies). In the 2nd academic year, students may choose to prepare an academic dissertation or to undertake a professional internship. In both cases, they will defend their dissertation or internship report before an academic committee.

At the end of the process, the University of Porto will grant a Master's degree in one of the following specialisations:

• Master’s degree in History, International Relations and Cooperation – specialisation in International Relations and Cooperation;
• Master’s degree in History, International Relations and Cooperation – specialisation in Political Studies.

Comments

Working Languages: Seminars are taught mostly in Portuguese as most of our international students are Portuguese-speaking (Brazilian, Portuguese speaking African), although several international experts are invited every year and their lectures are usually held in English. Every student (even Portuguese-speaking) is welcome to prepare their assignments, dissertation and/or reports in English, French or Spanish, and every teacher is open to discuss them in at least English.
