The Degree in Portuguese Studies offers a diversified education program that is not limited to the knowledge of Portuguese language, literature and culture. In fact, it also includes historical and geographical coordinates with universal significance that arouse great interest in the contemporary world: the Greco-Latin roots of classical evolution and the modern derivations of Lusophony. This knowledge allows the discover of new linguistic, literary, artistic and cultural variants of various continents, united by a common matrix.
In order to consolidate and enhance the Student's cognitive pathway, the Course integrates a methodological and theoretical training in the fields of several language and expression sciences, namely linguistics and poetics, as well as literary rhetoric, stylistics, criticism, history and aesthetics, promoting a systematic view of Western culture through the prism of Portuguese Studies.
The training acquired along the six semesters of this 1st Cycle of Studies enables deepening and specialization in the 2nd Cycle (Master degree), highlighting the following routes in this Faculty:
Masters in Literary, Cultural and Interart Studies;
Masters in Linguistics;
Masters in Teaching Portuguese in the 3rd Cycle of Basic Education and in Secondary Education and Latin in Secondary Education;
Masters in Portuguese as a Second Language / Foreign Language;
Masters in Teaching Portuguese in the 3rd Cycle of Basic Education and in Secondary Education.

A solid curricular education in the Lusophone culture, obtained in the 1st Cycle in Portuguese Studies, provides the student basic competences which will allow him/her to invest in any domain where the deep knowledge of the mother language and of its cultural and civilizational heritage are a requirement, namely the accomplishment of qualified intellectual or human management functions in the administrative or business areas.
