Course Description
The curricular structure of the History Course is characterised by the following features:

  • Subjects divided into semesters
  • The attribution of credits
  • There are no compulsory subjects
  • Curricular options, in general fields of knowledge

    The course seeks to transmit the concept of History as the study of human experience, considered in relation to particular periods, spaces and contexts, as well as a method of reflection and work. To this end, the fundamental objective of the History Course is to provide training based on three general areas:
    1. History – Knowledge
    2. History – Theory
    3. History – Method
    The subjects available are divided among the following key areas: General History; History of Portugal; Historical Methodologies and Sciences, and the following complementary fields of study: Peoples and Nations; Politics and Institutions; Economy and Society; Cultural Studies and Education.

    Career Prospects
    The degree in History qualifies the holder to exercise professional activities in the following fields:

  • Teaching of History in the 7th to 9th grades of primary education and in secondary education.
    And with additional training:
  • Tourism;
  • Cultural management;
  • Archives and Libraries;
  • Museums;
  • Public relations.
