Course Description
This degree course results from a partnership between the Faculty of Arts and the Faculty of Engineering, whose complementary areas of specialisation in this scientific and technical area result in a solid, up-to-date study plan, combining traditional knowledge with theoretical-practical applications in the area of information and communication technologies. It aims to provide training within the context of new fields of knowledge, particularly that of the Information Society, in which archivists and librarians, data administrators, and information managers in general develop their activities.
The degree course in Information Science is organised into 8 academic semesters. The final semester includes a traineeship in institutions that are external to the Faculty of Arts, but which it supervises. Each semester comprises five theoretical or theoretical-practical subjects, in which students must obtain pass grades, through written exams, a written assignment or other combinations of different assessment elements. In the last semester, the Traineeship and Seminar are also assessed, through a written report.
The course aims at training students for future professions in the field of Information Management and Organisation in any institutional context. This professional practice implies the capacity to occupy posts in coordination, planning and execution.
