Doctoral Degree

The European Doctorate is a distinction approved by the Confederation of European Councils of Rectors and associated with doctoral degrees awarded by European universities. It does not constitute an additional academic qualification or a joint degree between institutions. The University of Porto awards this distinction to its doctoral candidates who complete a research period of no less than one academic term at a recognised university or research institution within the wider European area, subject to appropriate certification. As part of the public defence of the thesis, candidates are required to deliver a portion of their presentation in a European language other than Portuguese.
