What You Need to Complete to Obtain the PhD
Programme Structure
The PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences (DCF) lasts eight semesters. The first and second semesters include a seminar (22 ECTS) and two Research Methodologies course units (14 ECTS), which emphasise active integration into the scientific and academic community, as well as the development of research, scientific writing, communication skills, and specialised technical competencies.
From the second semester of the first year onwards, and throughout the remaining semesters (204 ECTS), students undertake experimental work leading to the preparation of a doctoral thesis, supported by individual research. This research is typically carried out within leading research and development (R&D) units at the University of Porto or interuniversity centres, including:
