Objectives
The aim is for students to identify advances in current immunotherapy treatments and gain an insight into innovative strategies in immunotherapy. This curricular unit aims to contribute to the development of the following skills: analytical, critical, reflective, and creative thinking; time management and planning; digital skills; interpersonal communication; and collaborative work.
Learning outcomes and competences
Knowledge of current immunotherapies available for therapeutic application; research information using credible database platforms and artificial intelligence platforms; evaluate scientific data on immunotherapy that allows, in pharmaceutical practice, the provision of appropriate information; relate and explain advanced concepts in immunotherapy; prepare an assessment of innovative immunotherapies compared to conventional approaches.
Working method
Presencial
Pre-requirements (prior knowledge) and co-requirements (common knowledge)
The Immunotherapy curricular unit requires prior knowledge of Cell Biology, Molecular Genetics, Biochemistry, General Microbiology and Immunology previously taught in the MICF curriculum. This knowledge will allow the student to deepen and realise the applicability of theoretical and laboratory concepts previously acquired.
Program
Immunotherapy as a growing and innovative field. Cell therapy. Immunotherapy with monoclonal antibodies. Immunotherapy with cytokines. Advances and Innovative Strategies in Cancer Immunotherapy. New delivery systems in immunotherapy. Emerging topics in the field of immunotherapy.
Mandatory literature

Teaching methods and learning activities
Classes will be taught by the curricular unit faculty members using a digital presentation system. These classes also aim to apply active teaching methodologies to stimulate critical thinking, creativity, and initiative in discussions of topics in immunotherapy. The aim is to promote interaction among students, facilitate the analysis and interpretation of information, and clarify doubts to support the completion of a monograph. The monographs will be submitted on the Moodle platform and will be made available to all students enrolled in the course.

Eligibility for exams
Class attendance is mandatory. The student fulfills attendance if their number of absences does not exceed the limit of absences corresponding to 25% of the classes.
Calculation formula of final grade
Student assessment follows the current evaluation guidelines established by FFUP. It consists of two components: a final written exam (60%), which covers the topics taught during the course, and a continuous assessment (40%). The continuous assessment component will take place during the teaching period and includes two elements: class attendance (20%) and the development of a monograph (20%) on an emerging topic in immunotherapy. Participation in this component is mandatory. Final grades will be expressed on a scale from 0 to 20. Oral examinations are not included in the evaluation process.
Special assessment (TE, DA, ...)
General Evaluation Guidelines' of FFUP in force for the current academic year.
Classification improvement
Students may request a grade improvement only once, in one of the two exam periods, regular or appeal, immediately following the one in which they obtained approval. The final mark for the course unit will be the higher of those obtained in the two examinations.
