Abstract (EN):
This work focuses on developing multitubular adsorptive processes for the recovery of vinyl chloride from vent gas emissions in the vinyl chloride and poly(vinyl chloride) manufacturing industries. Taking into consideration pre-existing control processes, two case studies were considered, where the proposed adsorptive process acts as either the primary (bulk) or secondary (purification) separation unit. Experimental adsorption equilibrium data for vinyl chloride and nitrogen was measured on a Carbotech DGK activated carbon sample using a Rubotherm magnetic suspension balance. The proposed adsorptive systems are designed to treat a 40/60 % and a 1/99 % VCM/N2 mixture. They can produce a nitrogen stream fit for open-air release, and a VCM stream fit for recycling within the process.
